We recently had the pleasure of documenting Katie and Jeff’s wedding at the beautiful Madeline Parrish. We’ll have more about the story of their day soon, but some of the most sentimental and impactful moments came before the the formals or ceremony even began. While getting ready, Katie chose to honor the generations of women who came before her by carrying momentos from their weddings.

Family details weren’t the only important tradition for Katie. We learned that at every wedding, the family gathers and sings “Rocky Mountain High” by John Denver.

I never found out why, or how the tradition came to be – but it was darling!

We love to shoot out there because the setting is as unique and diverse as out clients and we always know we’ll find the perfect spot (and love the fact that it’s never the same one!) The Joy of 2012 – Whitney and Mike are Married at Camas Meadows Golf Club

They say you have two kinds of family: the family your are born into, and the family you choose. Whitney’s family falls into the latter as they’ve been an essential part of the village it takes to raise our two boys. You see, Hunter and Wyatt both attended Red Robin Preschool, which is owned by Whitney’s family. Years ago when she first saw our wedding work, Whitney said “When I get married, you’re going to shoot my wedding.” This summer she married Mike. And we shot her wedding.

The Joy of 2012 – Laurel & Elliott are Married at Bridal Veil Lakes

These two busy med students turned off their beepers and hosted a fantastic wedding! The Michigan natives treated their home town guests to Portland’s gems: Bridal Veil Lakes, Northwest beer and wine, classic Northwest cuisine, and Salt and Straw Ice Cream. In turn, Laurel and Elliott introduced their local guests to their favorite Michigan yard game, Cornhole. The set was handmade by friends all the way down to the monogrammed beanbag, and it was a smashing success!

So much fun! So many laughs!

It’s always fun to catch up with our wedding clients, and we’ve been lucky to see Danielle and Gordie from time to time at the Vancouver Farmer’s Market as well as keeping up on Facebook. I was delighted when Danielle messaged to ask if we could document the next chapter of their lives together; the journey of their new family. Their happiness is contagious, and I spent the rest of the day smiling! Like all their friends, I’m waiting on the edge of my seat for the arrival of baby Elizabeth. Hurry up, little Lizzy!

Ashley and Trent * The Art of Joy at The Abernethy Center

Ashley and Trent tied the knot at The Abernethy Center last Saturday. The couple chose the tradition of not seeing each other before the wedding, and it was a real treat to witness Trent’s expression when he saw his bride coming down the aisle! Guests enjoyed a marvelous dinner, toasts, cake and were still dancing the night away when we said our goodbyes.

Laurel & Elliot * The Art of Joy at Bridal Veil Lakes

When we photographed Laurel and Elliot’s engagement session, I was deemed “The Beeper Keeper” as these two busy med students were on call. On their wedding day at Bridal Veil Lakes we were assured the beepers were not only turned off, but off the the next 10 days and left at home. And that was only the first laugh of at least 4,623 that followed. The mix of local friends and friends from Michigan – including one that built a two corn hole boards that were one of the hits of the day – cheered the couple as they returned up the aisle and partied the night away at the reception.

We had the pleasure of photographing Kareena and Phillip’s wine inspired wedding at Cedarville Park’s Club Paesano. Now, you may ask, “What is more inspirational than wine?” The answer: the start of a beautiful new family, meaningful memorials to those who couldn’t be there to share the day, and a father -daughter dance to The House at Pooh Corner than had me glad my camera was on autofocus (the viewfinder gets all smeary when you cry.)

You’ll see those moments and more on Kareena and Phillip’s teaser trailer slideshow, but for now, here are a few favorites from the day.
